Dear Museum School Families,

Is anyone in your household counting down the days until March 26th? It’s hard to believe that this trimester is winding down so quickly. Much of the foundation’s attention had been devoted to Spanish Night in the months leading up to that wonderful event, and we should all be proud to know that Phil’s request for $30,000 was approved at the last FOMS meeting because of the success of that fundraiser. This brings the total we have raised for our kids’ school to about $85,000 so far this year! Isn’t that amazing? With the remaining fundraising opportunities on our horizon (festival of gamelan on 5/21, art auction in mid June, Whole Foods day TBD), we are well within sight of what many thought was an overly ambitious goal to raise $100,000 for the Museum School this year.  Wow.

In addition to these scintillating sorta-weekly emails from team FOMS, your best resource for the most up to date information about school events both large and small is the Museum School website. Phil is dedicated to updating the front page weekly with important notices and information, and many of the teachers are keeping parents current on classroom happenings through their own blogs, which can be accessed through the “teachers” tab of the webpage.  FOMS Meeting notes, agendas, and notices will also be posted on the "friends of the museum school" tab. Visit www.museumschool.org  regularly to stay in the loop!

Enjoy the sunshine, and have a great week!

Notes from 3.12.10 FOMS meeting

2/5/10

Dear Museum School Community,

A big round of applause to our fabulous community of Museum School families, extended families, friends, supporters, and volunteers!  Our Spanish Night at the Prado fundraiser was a wonderful success and it could only have happened with the concerted effort of everyone in our community.  Thanks for doing your part.  Special thanks and credit go to our hardworking co-chairs Rosemary Metcalf and Delsy Pantoja who have been laboring since last year's gala to assure another successful event!  All of our kids will benefit from the hard work and money that was well-spent on tickets, opportunity drawings and auctions.  Ole!

And now you (yes you!) are invited to the next Friends of the Museum School (FOMS) meeting to help cap off this year's fundraising goals - Friday, March 12, 2010 at 9:15 am at school.  On the agenda are a debriefing of Spanish Night, the Festival of Gamelan, a Whole Foods Day, Annual Art Auction and Grant opportunities (Agenda attached).  Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend!  If you are unable to make the meeting but would like to be kept intimately in the loop, email me at
Lizbeth_price@yahoo.com and I'll add you to the communications list.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

With warm regards,
Lizbeth Persons Price

Dear Museum School Families,

In our last FOMS update, the date that we gave you for our next meeting was the President’s Day holiday. Oops! There is no school on Friday, Feb. 12 or Monday, Feb 15th.

The FOMS meeting will take place on Friday, February 5th at 9:00 at the Museum School.

In other news:

Ross Porter of Ross Porter Walking Tours donated $250 in cash and gift cards to the Museum School!  He did four free tours in December and requested that instead of paying, attendees bring gift cards valid at the business of their choice to be donated to the Museum School.

No parking? No phones? NO PROBLEM! This week is a testament to the can-do spirit that characterizes the Museum School. What a valuable lesson our children are learning about resilience and adaptability! But does anyone know what Phil is writing on that legal pad every morning? As long as he keeps smiling, so should we!

Have you reserved your table for Spanish Night?

Have a great week!

Welcome back, everyone!

As we all get back into the swing of our school day routines, please take a moment to review these reminders:

Spanish Night, Sunday February 28 at the Prado

*The date is quickly approaching! Now is the time to purchase your tickets and take advantage of the amazing opportunity drawings!

*There is still time to secure donations for auction items - all of the information you need can be easily found through our FOMS page on the school website. All donations need to be submitted by the end of next week so that the hardworking Spanish Night team can put together fabulous packages for bidding!

*If you or someone you know would like to take advantage of a great way to advertise a business in the beautiful event program, or if you'd like to publish a personal note, please submit your ad space request form by January 31st. The cost is just $50 for a 1/4 page and $75 for a full page!

*There are several fun ways to participate during, before, or after the event - check out the volunteer sign up poster inside the front gate at school!

Fundraising Efforts

In December, FOMS proudly wrote a check in the amount of $35,000 in direct support of the special programs at The Museum School! This puts us well on our way to reaching the goal of $100,000 that we pledged to raise for our children's remarkable school this year.

Some of the ways you helped raised this money recently include:

*One to One Trunk Sale - $2,319
*Fall Festival - $1,340
*Tutti Fruitti Day - $150

A huge thank you goes out to Luna's grandmother Ofelia Alvarado, who has been a tremendous help in training our grant writing team in grants research! We are currently waiting for good news about a $3000 grant from the Lion's Club to support our Gamelan program. Thanks to Johanna Appel-Turner for her hard work writing that grant! Writing grants is an ongoing need that will potentially bring in a great deal of money for the school, if you are interested in helping with grant writing or research, please reply to this email with your name, your ideas, and your contact information.

We hope to see all of you at our next FOMS meeting on Friday, February 12th at 9:00 am!

Happy New Year!

December 14, 2009

Happy Monday, Museum School Families!

On of the decisions that was made at our FOMS meeting last Friday was that a weekly e-mail should go out with information and reminders. Please check your inbox every Monday for these timely updates!

A huge Thank You goes out to the volunteers who worked on the One + One Trunk Show, including all the talented Glashaus Artists, our friends at Influx Café, and the many Museum School parents who volunteered their precious time. The event raised $2,319 for our school!

Look for a sign up sheet by tomorrow with specific ways you can help with the upcoming Spanish Night fundraising gala.   Tickets for the event and the $1000 Opportunity Drawing will be sold at a Spanish Night table on several days each week before and after school.  The limited quantity $100 tickets for the amazing Trip to Spain Opportunity Drawing will be sold in the school office. Please continue to ask friends, associates, and businesses for donations of auction items and the purchase of ad space in the program. All of the info you need to solicit these partnerships can be found in the latest Museum School update on our home page.
